for today’s post, we’re back to the drawings from the Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain book. these exercises involved recreating drawings by viewing and reproducing them upside down. instead of recognizing things as objects, like a nose, the idea was to see them as shapes, and to reproduce those shapes.

creative 365 – no. 7

another one of my experiments this year is with drawing. to that end, i picked up a copy of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain book and made it to the first few drawing exercises. at least for now the plan is to post the images to the blog as part of the create365.

the first exercises were a self portrait while looking in the mirror (above), a drawing of the hand, and a drawing of someone from memory…for that i chose my grandfather. that was an interesting exercise, firstly because my grandfather has been gone for a long time now, and secondly because the exercise was to show how we draw some objects the same way we’ve drawn them forever when we don’t have the visual reference; so the eyes look like my eyes, the nose looks like my nose.

anyway, these exercises were more of a baseline, so i’ve got nowhere to go but up!
